Choquequirao Trek 4 day
Description of the excursion.
When this magnificent city was rediscovered, nobody visited because we already had Machu Picchu. A historian guessed that it was the Golden City, and later Choquequirao was proven to be the last refuge before the Peruvian coast.
The location of the city is close to the gods (sky, sun, moon, star, and mountain). This spectacular trek will lead you to the enigmatic last refuge of the Incas. Choquequirao (3103 MASL – 10178 FASL) is a huge archaeological complex still in a cleaning and restoration process located in the surroundings of the sacred Salkantay mountain (6271 MASL – 20569 FASL) and the Apurimac River canyon. You will enjoy amazing mountain scenery as well as lots of Andean flora and fauna.
This trail includes a section of some of the original Inca trails of South America and has a lot history and legends behind it. The trail is 60 km/40 miles traversed in 4 days.

DAY 1 CUSCO – CACHORA – CHIQUISCA
We will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 6:00 a.m. to start our travel to Chachora, passing by the villages of Izcuchaca until we arrive at the archaeological complex of Tarawasi. We will continue our journey to the Cunyac bridge, going through the district of Curahuasi and Saywite until we finally arrive at Cachora at roughly 10 a.m. Here we will prepare our beasts of burden and the carriers and we will start our walk over a gentle slope until we arrive at the Capuliyoc pass (2800 meters above sea level), where we will have lunch after two hours of walking; afterwards we will go towards the village of Chiquisa (1930 meters above sea level). During this trip we will have the opportunity to enjoy magnificent views, beautiful sceneries, warm weather, glaciers of the mountain range Vilcabamba and the impressive abyss of Apurímac, where our first camp will be.

After breakfast at approximately 5:00 a.m. we will continue our trip to “la playa Rosalinas” (1550 meters above sea level), the most difficult way, and then head towards Santa Rosa (2100 meters above sea level) for about 3 hours to then ascend to Marampata (2850 meters above sea level), a slight rise where we can see the entire path of the fisrt day and the vegetation in this place. We will also observe orchids and violets, and if we get lucky we might be able to see wildlife like deer, anteaters and a wide spectrum of birds and insects. Then we will walk the path to Choquequirao, where our encampment will be located one hour from the archaeological complex.
DAY 3 CHOQUEQUIRAO – SAN IGNACIO – CARMEN
At sunrise we will first visit the archaeological site of Choquequiraoi; until today only 30% of this “cradle of gold” has been discovered. Later we will walk to our encampment in the beautiful gardens of Carmen (2000 meters above sea level).
